Halal Munchies

saginaw, mi

The new Halal Munchies in Saginaw marks the brand’s first brick-and-mortar location in Michigan, bringing its bold NYC-inspired street food to a revitalized historic storefront in Old Town. Set within a late 19th-century commercial building once home to the Hinds & Weinberg candy and cigar shop, the project preserves the character of its setting while establishing a vibrant, modern identity. Our team led the adaptive reuse and architectural design effort, balancing restoration with retail-ready transformation. Original masonry, vintage painted signage, and large display windows were preserved and celebrated as part of the building’s civic and visual history. Inside, the layout was reimagined for high-volume food service, with a compact kitchen line, durable surfaces, and bold brand graphics that reflect Halal Munchies’ energetic street-food ethos. Large storefront windows activate the street and invite the community in, while the historic shell gives the restaurant a rooted presence in the neighborhood. As the brand’s first expansion into Michigan, this location represents more than a new restaurant—it’s a cultural bridge, introducing a national flavor to a local landmark. The project reflects our firm’s ongoing commitment to architectural storytelling, adaptive reuse, and community-scale design that honors both past and future.
